This is an open letter to the woman in the parking lot, the teacher helping with pick up at school, and anyone else who thinks it is their business whether my child wears a winter coat. I know that it is cold out and, remarkably, so does he. And when he gets cold, he will ask to put one on. Would I let him go skiing without a coat? No. But will I let him walk through the parking lot without a coat? You betcha. So please, the next time that you see us together, please do not feel compelled to ask me, “who is in charge here?” Thank you.
