I don’t. I have boys. And when I think about having the “talk” with a daughter about periods, puberty, and everything associated with bodily changes, I breathe a sigh of relief that I have boys. I’m sure I’m not alone.
Parents’ reluctance to discuss these issues with their young girls is one of the reasons that Tara Bruley created her site, Be Prepared. Be Prepared. is a full-service site devoted to creating an open discussion about puberty and menstruation. It is chock full of information for moms (and dads) of developing daughters, testimonials, resources, and a store full of sanitary products that can be delivered to your doorstep. Be Prepared also recently partnered with You ARE Loved, a non-profit that raises awareness about tampon related TSS.
