San Diego with kids in tow.

We’re planning a trip to San Diego and I’ve started doing some research into what we will do while we are there.  Boy, am I excited!  There are so many things to do in San Diego (whether you’ve got kids with you or not).  Here are a few of the things that are on our A-list.

First stop, Legoland.  Initially, I wasn’t sure that this was really a necessary detour, as my basement resembles a mini-Legoland (minus the rides, of course).  But my 7 year old emphatically announced that this has to be the first stop on our trip.  And given that my boys are Legos fanatics, that seems like a sound decision.  I think that they will absolutely love everything about the place.

Second day, The San Diego Zoo.  I have heard such lovely things about this zoo.  And my boys love to visit the Franklin Park Zoo in Boston.  Since the San Diego Zoo is like our local zoo on steroids, we will be there with our walking shoes on.  And though it probably will require a second (or third) day, we also will be making the rounds at Balboa Park — a haven of culture, amusement, and nature.  After we’ve tackled Balboa Park, Sea World is next.  After all, who can resist Shamu?  Plus, there are enough shows, rides, and exhibits to keep us busy for at least a full day.

If we have more time?  We also plan to swing by the Maritime Museum, Old Town, the Pier and Seaport Village, and Coronado Island.  All of these activities could fill a full day, so we’ll have to see how everyone is doing.  By mid-week, they may just want to chill around the pool or at one of the many beautiful beaches in the area.

Have you been to San Diego?  Got tips for me?  If you’ve traveled to San Diego with kids and enjoyed something that you don’t see here, please leave us a comment!
